What's Driving Your Business: Defined Strategy or Destination Unknown? How 3 Simple Questions Will Tell You.By Peter Christian • Published July 2010 The Benefits of Strategic Planning
The very nature of Strategic Planning promotes buy-in and creates a sense of ownership within the organization, which has lasting value in and of itself. No Strategy is Set in Stone. Strategy is not carved in stone nor is a Strategic Plan something you do once and place in a binder, never to see the light of day again. This document, along with your strategy, needs to evolve with your company and the marketplace. Bear in mind that what is relevant today will not necessarily be relevant tomorrow. So stop and ask yourself, "what makes my company relevant in this current business climate?" Will it remain relevant 3 years from now if nothing about the company changes? It May Feel Like You're Moving A Mountain Setting up a strategy isn't easy and, as I mentioned earlier, it will require "heavy lifting" by all parties involved. If the process seems easy, then you are not digging deep enough. But by the end of the process, you will have developed a tangible document that can truly change the course of your business. Doing a Strategic Plan the first time may feel like moving a mountain, but once this initial process is complete, updating it becomes easier. In fact, it can be an energizing event for your team. When they see that their ideas and input really matter, their commitment to executing the plan rises exponentially.
